That's not you being "too sensitive." Pastor Dana Everage calls it residue, pain that never fully got released, sitting quietly until the right button gets pushed.

Here's the part that might surprise you: this doesn't stop happening just because you got saved, got healthier, or "dealt with it years ago." Every person carries some residue. The wound heals over, but the memory of it stays wired into your mind, waiting.

So what do you do when someone pushes that button and you're right back in it?

First, stop being hard on yourself for still feeling it. Being triggered isn't proof you're broken or that your healing wasn't real. It's proof you're human, and that forgiveness is often a process rather than a one-time decision.

Second, understand where real rest comes from. Rest isn't something you earn by finally getting over everything perfectly. It's something you're invited into, today, not someday once you've fully processed every old wound.

Third, find a place that will walk with you through it, not just talk at you about it. Healing residue isn't a solo project. It happens in community, in prayer, and over time, which is part of why gathering with other people matters more than most of us expect.

If you've been carrying something for a long time and you don't have a church home to process it with, we'd love to meet you.

Come as you are. We'll leave the light on.

Join us this Sunday

Resting Followers

Discover what Hebrews 4 teaches about biblical rest, active faith, and trusting God when life feels stressful or uncertain.
Biblical rest is not passivity. It is the faith-filled decision to obey God, remember His goodness, and trust Him with the outcome.

Rest Is More Than Taking a Break

When life feels heavy, the word *rest* can sound unrealistic. Responsibilities remain. Decisions still need to be made. Problems do not disappear simply because we want peace.

Yet Hebrews 4 tells us that “God’s promise of entering his rest still stands” (Hebrews 4:1 NLT). God is not inviting us to deny reality. He is inviting us to face reality from a place of faith.

In his message “Resting Followers,” Pastor Dana Everidge explained that we can experience pressure without allowing it to drive us. Biblical rest is not laziness, avoidance, or pretending that nothing is wrong. It is trusting that God is present, His Word is true, and His provision is sufficient.

God Rested, and He Invites Us to Rest

Genesis tells us that God rested after His work of creation. Hebrews 4 points back to that completed work and reminds us that God’s rest has been available from the foundation of the world.

God is not anxious about whether He can meet our needs. He is not struggling to find a solution. As Pastor Dana said, “He’s not struggling trying to provide your needs.” God invites us to trust what He has already provided through Christ.

That does not mean we never work, plan, seek counsel, or take action. It means our action comes from trust instead of panic.

Mix the Word With Faith

Hebrews 4:2 warns that the good news did not benefit some who heard it because they did not join what they heard with faith.

We can hear sermon after sermon and still remain stuck if we never act on what we believe. Pastor Dana defined faith simply: “Faith is the ability to act on what you believe.”

Mixing the Word with faith can look like:

- Speaking God’s truth when fearful thoughts rise.
- Praying with confidence that God hears us.
- Obeying the direction God has already given.
- Asking for help instead of carrying everything alone.
- Taking a responsible next step while releasing the outcome to God.

Faith is not a religious label. It is a way of living.

Remember the Goodness of God

Psalm 95 calls us to sing, give thanks, worship, and remember that we are the people under God’s care. Praise redirects our attention from the size of the problem to the greatness of our God.

Pastor Dana shared that in a difficult week, he had to remind himself: “God is good no matter what.” That confession did not deny the challenge. It placed the challenge in the proper perspective.

When you remember how God has carried you before, faith rises for what you are facing now.

Rest Can Include Practical Action

Rest does not always mean sitting still. Sometimes it means delegating. Sometimes it means seeking wise or professional help. Sometimes it means creating space in your schedule for prayer, Scripture, and quiet.

The important question is not, “Am I doing anything?” The better question is, “Am I following God’s direction, or am I being driven by fear?”

Do what God has placed in your hands. Receive the help He provides. Then refuse to carry what belongs to Him.

A Simple Prayer for Rest

Father, thank You that Your promise of rest still stands. Help me to hear Your voice, believe Your Word, and act in faith. I release the anxiety and pressure I have been carrying. Show me the next step of obedience, and help me trust You with the outcome. Remind me of Your goodness and fill me with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Take a breath today. Let your shoulders relax. God loves you, watches over you, and invites you to rest in Him.

Watch or listen to the complete “Resting Followers” message through the Vegas Christian Center website or app. Then join us Sunday, July 26, as Pastor Dana continues teaching from Hebrews 4.
